Cuba on 35mm Film with Women Photo Tours
I would describe myself is endlessly curious - about the world, it’s inhabitants, and how we can do better to build connections across borders and to learn about experiences that are different than ours.
Alongside my work and day to day life, I prioritize travel. Over the past couple of years and after moving away from a 9-5 job, I have been able to spend more time abroad. For me, finding immersive opportunties for learning, creativity, and cultural exchange is key. As of this year, I am also a trip leader with Women Photo Tours.
Amanda Bjorn created Women Photo Tours during her time exploring the beautiful country of Cuba and knew she needed to create a cultural exchange to bring artists down there to learn about the history and to meet Cuban creatives. Women Photo Tours now brings female identifying photographers to locations all over the world including Cuba, Guatemala, Italy, and Spain. The trips center photography in all of its forms and integrate opportunities to learn about the country you are visiting through cultural exchange, discussion around ethical image creation when you are a visitor somewhere, and traveling from the ethos of giving more than you take. Each trip features collaborations with other female creators, studio visits with local artists, impromptu photo shoots with fellow participants, and opportunities to build community. If you are an artist, creative, a photographer, or just photo-curious, I recommend joining one of our trips this year. I’ll be leading Cuba in May and August.
In the meantime, enjoy these photos I took on my first trip to Cuba in June 2022.
Let’s travel with intention & curiosity.
